A formidable guitarist, composer, recording artist, and educator, Bill Hart stands as a dynamic innovator in Funk, Jazz, and World music. Leading the acclaimed Bill Hart Band, he has released six celebrated albums while continuing to inspire musicians worldwide through performance, education, and composition.
Born in Niagara Falls, Canada, Hart began studying guitar at a young age of 9 before relocating with his family to Florida as a teenage prodigy. He later pursued formal music studies at the Guitar Institute of Technology (GIT) in Los Angeles. Alongside his touring career, Hart is a respected educator and author of Solo Jazz Guitar: The Complete Chord Melody Method, published by Hal Leonard in 1999 and reissued in 2007 — now regarded as a staple resource for jazz guitarists.
The Bill Hart Band has earned international recognition for its vibrant fusion of Funk grooves, Jazz harmony, African rhythms, and Latin influences. Their six instrumental jazz-fusion albums and 2005 live concert DVD Think About It showcase Hart’s virtuosic guitar work and original compositions, alongside world-class musicians including percussionist Ahsa Ahla, drummer Yakou N’Guessan (Ivory Coast), bassist Andre Manga (Cameroon), and pianist Randy Hoexter (USA).
On his independent release Subject to Change, Hart collaborated with legendary guitarist Mike Stern, his mentor of over 35 years and former member of the Miles Davis Band, further cementing his reputation within the jazz-fusion world.
Now preparing his seventh studio album, Seven Seas, Bill Hart continues to push musical boundaries, blending Jazz Funk, African and Latin traditions with sophisticated jazz harmony — fully reflecting the diverse stylistic expertise of his ensemble.
